The low prices are enticing to many, and travelers are often willing to sacrifice a little privacy in order to save some money. You may be wondering, what is a hostel and why should I consider staying in one on my next trip? Put simply, a hostel is a budget-friendly accommodation that focuses on a social atmosphere. Hostels are different from other options such as hotels and Airbnb in two major ways: the low prices, and the people. Due to its shared-space environment, hostels are able to charge travelers much less per night than a hotel. “Shared space” doesn’t always equal bunk beds and dorm rooms, as many hostels around the world also offer individual rooms for rent.
